Description
Jinney Ring is one of a delightful little group of five character cottages making up Mocktree Barns Holiday Cottages. They are located in glorious countryside on the Shropshire / Herefordshire border just seven miles from the historic town of Ludlow and five miles to the Welsh border.
Jinney Ring provides comfortable accommodation for a family group with one double bedroom and two single bedrooms upstairs with additional sleeping provided by a sofa bed in the lounge area. There is a shared shower room/toilet on the first floor.
The kitchen is well equippped with an electric cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and toaster.
The open plan lounge/dining room has comfortable seating for up to six and there are books and games for entertainment. Children are welcome and we have a high chair and cot for our young visitors. We also provide age appropriate toys and games for indoor and outdoor play.
At Mocktree Barns the five cottages, as well as our own home, are situated around a south-facing courtyard with splendid views over farmland to the South Shropshire Hills. Each cottage has a wealth of original stone and timber features; a nice reminder that they were once farm barns.
The courtyard has tables, chairs and parasols for relaxing in the sun while the bees buzz gently in our wildlife-friendly gardens and the red kites circle overhead.
We garden organically and are pleased to have the Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme, as well as the Achiever Award for 2011 from the Shropshire Hills Sustainable Business Scheme.
There are walks from the door in all directions as well as National Trust properties, the Mortimer Forest, Herefordshire Cider Trail, castles, gardens and lots of other attractions for all ages close by. We can offer discount vouchers for Acton Scott Historic Working Farm (where the 'Victorian Farm' series was filmed) and the famous Ironbridge Gorge musuems.
Jinney Ring is the largest cottage and is suitable for a family group -bookable from this web site.
Stable and Kibble Mill cottages are two storey and ideal for a couple.
Kit and Weavers cottages are both single storey and offer comfortable accommodation for less mobile couples. Both of these have been assessed under the National Accessible Scheme and awarded Level 1.
The cottages are well-equipped. Bed linen, towels, heating and electricity are all included in the tariff. All cottages have WiFi access.

Described by John Betjeman as “the loveliest town in England”, this Shropshire market town is situated close to the Welsh border, in the delightful hilly countryside known as the Welsh Marches. Nestled on a cliff above the River Teme, and beneath the Clee Hills, the town is home to over 500 listed buildings, which include some superb examples of mediaeval and Tudor half-timbered buildings. The parish church, St Laurence Church, is the largest in the county, and it is also the custodian of the ashes of A.E. Housman, the poet who wrote “A Shropshire Lad”.
Ludlow came into existence after Ludlow Castle was started in 1086, and the castle’s varied architecture reflects its long history. Originally a Norman Fortress, it was extended over the centuries to become a fortified Royal Palace. Open to visitors, it is now the host of many of the towns events and festivals throughout the year. Milton’s “Comus” was first performed in the Great Hall here in 1634, and the tradition is continued each summer when a play is performed in the open air as part of the Ludlow Arts Festival.
The town centre is thriving, with a market, speciality food shops, inns and restaurants. Ludlow has made a name as a centre for gastronomy, and every September the Ludlow Food and Drink Festival takes place. This three-day event allows local, small producers to show and sell their wares.
Other attractions in the area include: Ludlow Museum, which provides a history of the town; Stokesay Court, a Victorian country house built by Christian evangelist and philanthropist, John Derby Allcroft; The Ludlow Assembly Rooms, an arts and cinema centre, presenting live music, theatre, films, comedy and talks; Ludlow Leisure Centre, with swimming pool and fitness suites; Berrington Hall, a classic English country house; Acton Scott Historic Working Farm; Mickey Millers Family Play Barn; and Westhope College Gardens.
Other places located within a few miles of Ludlow include Leominster, Wall-Under-Heywood, Tenbury Wells, Craven Arms, and Bucknell.
